Makeup Monday

Who’s excited for Makeup Mondays?!?photo credit: re_ via photopin cc

The land of makeup can be a scary world for many. In fact, this even causes some women to never even venture out and experience the wonderful world of makeup. Walk into any drugstore and there are several aisles just filled with products. How can I know what to get? How will I know if it works? There’s not enough time to try every product! The overwhelming feeling can shut us down so that we don’t even bother trying; or worse, it can cause us to keep doing the same thing we’ve been doing for the past ten years.

Do you remember high school? There were the girls that seemed to have it all together. Their eyelashes were fluttery, their cheekbones defined; they knew just the perfect way to use lip liner, lipstick and lip gloss to create lips always ready to be kissed! If you were this girl, God bless you! But most of us were probably not.

No, we were the girls who read teen magazines and wore glitter on our eyes. And our cheeks. And our  non-existent cleavage. And our entire bodies. We’d try to replicate looks we’d see on MTV and end up looking like a drag queen or a little girl who broke into her mother’s makeup stash.

When college came, maybe we’d try any product our roommate used and assume it would work for us. (Even if our college roommate had dark skin and dark eyes and we had light skin and blue eyes… what did we know about skin coloring??)

So here we are now. Many of us are still as lost about the world of makeup as we were at fifteen. But don’t give up! I am here to help! If you are trying to figure out your way through scary and overwhelming makeup aisles and counters, let me be your guide. If you are stuck doing the same routine you’ve been doing for years, let me help you find a new one.

Over the next several weeks, months, years (hey, I’m not one to judge how long this process could take), I will help you discover your inner beauty queen so you too can feel confident with what you put on your face. We’ll go over:

  • Why you wear what you wear now
  • Trends and fads–why they are neither inherently good nor inherently evil
  • How what is good for one may not be good for another–and how to tell what’s right for you
  • How to highlight your positives.
  • As well as some pointers on how to use a number of the popular products on the market now.

So, how about it? You up for the challenge of overcoming all your makeup worries and fears?

Are you ready to finally try a new look and see what  happens?

Then “Makeup Mondays” are for you! Stay tuned for a fabulous new article every Monday!

Thank the good Lord! I swear, I have no idea how to do my makeup. I try to make myself believe that I do, but that’s just now how it works lol. I really look forward to reading your future posts. Hopefully you can help me!

Alisha, believe me, it took me years to realize what I was doing wrong and lots of YouTube videos to help me figure out the right/better ways to apply it!:) I’m here for you!!

Seriously…were you peeking at my high school year book? I was the one that had it all wrong but thought I looked so right. I am excited to learn about new products and understand the benefits of the tried and true ones that are out there. Thank you Kristen, I cannot wait for future articles!

Amanda, I’d love to see your old yearbook pix! In fact, that would be a fun idea to compare what we were doing back then to what we’re doing now to see if it changed!:) thanks for the idea!!:)

You mean even I can learn to blend my foundation line? Okay, I’m not that bad-but I really look forward to your posts! Are you taking requests?

Jessica, ah the not blending of the lines! The only one more fun than that is using a foundation two shades too dark and not blending it into your neck! Lol. I would be happy to take requests or answer any specific questions people have and address them in upcoming articles! Just email me at Kristen.French@theflairist.com

This is right on! In high school, I wore glitter eye shadow, body glitter, and once, for homecoming, I even shellacked my hair with glitter out of a spray can. Ugh. And now I wear the same makeup every day because I don’t want to spend money on products I might not like. I’m definitely looking forward to this column!

Emily, you are not alone with the body glitter thing! I would wear that stuff ANYWHERE (and everywhere, honestly)–and I may have even done the can of glitter spray through my hair as well… *sigh* but we were still cool back then, right? I mean, glitter *was* popular… wasn’t it?;)

I pretty much know two things about makeup:
    1.) I love eyeliner
2.) My makeup regimen needs major help.

So, I’m so looking forward to this series, Kristen!

Amie, eyeliner is great! I’ve recently been trying colored eyeliner–which was scary at first, but definitely gives a new perspective to my eyes!:) We’ll get you to try something new, too!

Dana, honestly, what girl growing up in the ’90s/’00s wasn’t obsessed with glitter at least one point in her high school/college days?? ;)
